“SWEPAR” is as a designation for the combined Parasitology sections at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), and at the National Veterinary Institute (SVA). SWEPAR is active in diagnostic investigation and research. The research team includes veterinarians, biologists, biotechnologists and laboratory technicians and thus the competence range of persons with expertise in the area of the epidemiology and control of parasites of ruminant livestock, to epidemiological investigations on anthelmintic resistance. Skills are also developed in molecular PCR-based techniques. At SWEPAR we have access to animal holding facilities, a research farm and a network with governmental and national industry organisation for Swedish farmers organisation. SWEPAR has participated in three European Union collaboration projects, COST 820 “Vaccines against animal coccidiosis”, COST 833 “Mange and myasis in livestock” and COST B16 “Reversal of antibiotic resistance”, as well as in two 5th framework programmes: “WORMCOPS - QLK5-CT-2001-01843” and “Diagnosis, epidemiology and prevention of Neospora caninum – associated bovine abortions, QLRT-CT-2001-01050“.
