Represented by: Prof. Dr. Giuseppe Cringoli
The research team consists of veterinarians, animal production researchers, biologists, and biotechnologists, with expertise ranging from parasite epidemiology (spatial analysis, forecast models, and disease mapping using Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing) to control helminth infections in sheep and goats, and evaluation of efficacy of anthelmintics. The team also has strong expertise in traditional diagnostic parasitological techniques and it is holder of the “Patent of industrial invention - FLOTAC”, a new instrument for a new coprological technique for the detection and counting of eggs in faeces.
In addition, the research group has expertise in a broad range of immunological (ELISA, IFAT, etc.) and molecular techniques (PCR, PCR-RFLP, DNA sequencing) for diagnosis of protozoa and helminth parasites of ruminants. The Department contains a wide range of modern equipment, including a laboratory of molecular biology, and a dedicated epidemiological server for disease mapping. The group coordinates the Regional Centre for Monitoring of Parasitic Diseases of Livestock (CREMOPAR), funded by the Campania Region. CREMOPAR is active in diagnostic investigation and research in veterinary parasitology for all the ruminant farms of southern Italy and has access to ruminant farms for clinical trials.
