Institut für Parasitologie, Zentrum für Infektionsmedizin, TiHo Hannover: http://www.tiho-hannover.de/einricht/parasit/index.htm
The Institute for Parasitology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover is fully equipped with state of the art molecular, immunological and classical parasitological laboratories, large animal facilities (up to 80 calves and 100 sheep per years) and a faculty owned research farm with a large cattle herd available. For more than 10 years, continued research on anthelmintic resistance focussed on diagnostic, epidemiology, immunology, molecular mechanisms has been undertaken. The Institute’s special expertise lies in diagnostic methods for anthelmintic resistance including several in vivo and in vitro techniques. These include qualitative and quantitative real-time PCR and quantitative real-time sequencing (Pyrosequencing™). Recent projects involved the investigation of the field prevalence of anthelmintic resistance in sheep, cattle and horses, the characterisation of molecular markers for anthelmintic resistance, development of molecular methods for the assessment of the status of anthelmintic resistance in nematode field populations. As working group chairman the Institute coordinates a COST funded (COST action B16) international co-operation with more than ten other parasitological institutes. Within this project a process for the standardization of anthelmintic resistance detection tests has been initiated.
