Novel solutions for the sustainable control of nematodes in ruminants
A project under the Sixth Framework Program
PARASOL (Parasite Solutions) is a European Framework 6 funded project attributed to the thematic priority areas Food Quality and Safety. With the PARASOL Project, (full title: “Novel solutions for the sustainable control of nematodes in ruminants”) 17 Partners from 10 countries plan to address the specific objectives of “Safer and environmentally friendly production methods and technologies and healthier foodstuffs, methods for the control of helminths in livestock” (FP6, FOOD-2004-T5.4.6.6) raised in the call for Specific Targeted Research Projects (STREP), by developing strategies for Targeted Selective Treatment (TST) for the control of nematodes in ruminants. In temperate regions the work will be focused on gastrointestinal parasites of both cattle and sheep, whereas in the Mediterranean area and in the selected INCO countries more attention will be paid to the most important parasites of sheep and goats. The Project, which began in February 2006, will run for three years, through January 2009.
